WHY ASK FOR A DELAY UNTIL 2027?
We support the principle of repairability.
We believe consumers should be able to have their appliances repaired more easily and at a reasonable cost.
However, several essential conditions are not yet in place to ensure the success of this reform.
The repair ecosystem is not ready
Quebec is already facing a significant shortage of qualified repair technicians.
Approximately 20 new technicians are each year, while demand for repairs will increase significantly when the regulation comes into force. Together, these factors will put upward pressure on repair costs.
Without enough qualified technicians, repair wait times could become longer and access to services could become more difficult in many regions of Quebec.
Consumers will end up paying more.
The current regulation sets out obligations that would create significant costs for retailers and manufacturers.
Based on information provided by manufacturers, some appliances will see their prices increase by up to 30%.
The government’s goal is to make repairs more accessible.
However, in its current form, the regulation will have the opposite effect by encouraging replacement instead of repair.
Fewer affordable choices

Quebec consumers will end up with fewer affordable options when replacing an essential appliance.
WHAT WE ARE ASKING FOR
We are asking the Government of Quebec to:
Postpone the regulation’s coming into force until 2027
To allow for realistic and effective implementation.
Train more qualified repair technicians
To meet demand in all regions of Quebec.
Protect Quebecers’ purchasing power
And preserve access to affordable appliances.
Support Quebec businesses
That will be required to comply with this new regulation.
